Don't Bring Excessive Cash When Entering China. There are Limits!

How much cash can you carry when entering and exiting China?

For RMB currency:

When carrying RMB into or out of China, you are limited to only 20,000 yuan per person per trip.

For the Foreign currency, it is divided into exit and entry:

Exit:

  1. If the amount is equal to or less than USD 5,000, customs will allow you to pass without a permit.
  2. If the amount exceeds USD 5,000 but is less than or equal to USD 10,000, you must obtain a “Permit for Carrying Foreign Currency Out of the Customs Territory” from the bank.
  3. For amounts exceeding USD 10,000, please remember to apply for a “Permit for Carrying Foreign Currency Out of the Customs Territory” from the Foreign Exchange Bureau in advance.

Entry:

  1. The maximum allowed foreign currency is USD 5,000 or its equivalent.
  2. If you exceed the limit, please declare it to customs in writing.
